Really quite good. The author comes up with uniquely imaginative settings, but never bonks you over the head with the universe she creates. The characters are always the main issue, which is as it should be.
My only complaint was that there were a couple of stories were the voice and age of the storyteller did not match at all. This is admittedly something that wouldn't have bothered me before I had kids, but it was pretty striking in a couple of the early stories here. There are also a few stories that end more weakly than they deserve, like she wasn't quite sure how to tie them off.
But still this is a really memorable and striking collection of stories. The title story is one of my favorite short stories of all time. Worth the price of admission alone.
Overall a great debut, very excited to see what she does next.
